We need a friendly, accounts-literate person to facilitate and support our work with veterans. Based at the garden, you will help develop and maintain our financial records and book-keeping.
Volunteering at DTG in this role will involve helping to establish and maintain our admin and finance systems including petty cash and accounts, in support of our treasurer. Two full time staff work in the garden, supported by a board of trustees. This flexible role will involve providing essential back-office support to allow the charity to function effectively, and the staff to concentrate on working with service users. Though office based, there will be plenty of opportunity to get involved in the therapeutic sessions if you wish. Whilst with veterans you will be expected to reinforce positive lifestyle messages, including maintaining a tidy and secure working environment. Our volunteers are important to provide positive civilian role models for veterans. This role presents an opportunity to gain experience in providing admin and finance support to a small organisation supporting people with mental health problems whilst also providing opportunities to learn about therapeutic gardening. We will provide DBS clearance.
Organisation's aims and objectives
Dundee Therapy Garden is a mental health charity providing Horticultural Therapy to veterans of the Armed Forces and Uniformed Services. We use gardening activities to facilitate improvements in mental and physical health and social functioning. We work from a purpose built site in Dudhope Park. Many volunteers are engaged in working directly with veterans but many other opportunities are also available.
Office/admin experience including managing accounts and petty cash essential.
The site is located within Dudhope park, Dundee and is an easy walking distance from the city centre. Parking is available on St Mary’s Place, but we are unable to reimburse train and bus fares.
